You Are Not Alone in the IVF Adventure

In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) is a process by which egg cells are fertilized by sperm outside the womb, in vitro. IVF is a major treatment in infertility when other methods of assisted reproductive technology have failed. The process involves hormonally controlling the ovulatory process, removing ova (eggs) from the woman's ovaries and letting sperm fertilize them in a fluid medium. The fertilized egg (zygote) is then transferred to the patient's uterus with the intent to establish a successful pregnancy.

IVF Adventure is a website created by a couple who are currently in the process of In vitro fertilization (IVF). The purpose of this website is to share IVF knowledge and experience with other IVFers.

When to Seek Treatment?

Generally, individuals should seek treatment if, after one year of having regular intercourse, pregnancy has not resulted or if there is a problem with repeated pregnancy loss. After a complete physical examination and hormonal study, the investigation may begin with daily recordings of the woman's basal body temperature and a semen analysis for the man.

Week 17 – Is my weight gain enough?

Posted by | July 29, 2013 | File Under Pregnancy | 0 Comments

I’ve noticed that my belly has been developed dramatically in the last week (week16). It gets easier to feel full when I have small meals. But my weight has not been changed in the last two month. I think maybe I should eat more!

Week 16 – Bad Allergies

Posted by | July 18, 2013 | File Under Pregnancy | 0 Comments

I am allergic to some pollens, mainly grass, weeds and birch trees. It has been very hot and dry since early June. My allergy symptoms have been bad, including big sneeze, running and itch nose and even sore throat, especially after I went to my garden. My garden is located in a farm where there are plenty of grass and weeds. I checked the pollen forecast everyday. The pollen reports have been medium to high in the last two months (June and July). I consulted a couple of OBs and pharmacists – they told me that most allergic pills are Class B medication, meaning it’s not 100% safe for the baby,  especially in the first trimester. So I tried not to take any medication, unless it was really necessary. I have not really enjoyed the nice summer weather – I try not to go to any parks. My regular exercise is going out for a walk in the neighborhood.  It has not rained for almost two months – I am looking forward to  raining days so that I can breath!

Week 15 – Starting Prenatal Yoga

I kind of feel like I need more exercise – may be prenatal yoga? I Googled local prenatal yoga class but it didn’t come up with too many options. I guess it’s summer and most people would prefer outdoor activities.

There is a yoga center which is close to where we live. I were there to try it out tonight. First time is free – so it wasn’t too bad. They have nice yoga room. Most pregnant women in the class (about 10, I think) are in their final stage of pregnancy. A couple of them are due in a few weeks. It looks like I am the one who is at the earliest stage. The instructor is fine. I think I will come back. It’s always good to do yoga.

10dp5dt – mood swing

Posted by | April 27, 2013 | File Under Pregnancy | 0 Comments

I noticed that my mood has not been stable lately. Google told me that I am not alone; mood swings during pregnancy are common. I am excited about being pregnant, but I also feel stressed and overwhelmed. I also start worried about if I might do something wrong to the little tiny bean in my belly – for example, I was worried that if my sneeze and cough might hurt the baby; I also worried about my sleeping position, the food I am eating…etc.

What should I do about my mood swings?

It is important to understand you are not alone; mood swings are just another aspect of the pregnancy experience. Knowing that what you are experiencing is normal and somewhat expected may help you cope. The following list includes ways to manage your stress level:

  • Get plenty of sleep
  • Take a break during the day to relax
  • Get regular physical activity – yes!
  • Eat well
  • Spend time with your partner – yes!
  • Take a nap.
  • Go for a walk – yes!
  • See a movie with a friend
  • Don’t be so hard on yourself – that’s so right!
  • Try pregnancy yoga class or meditation
  • Get a massage

9dp5dt – 2nd Beta 223

Posted by | April 26, 2013 | File Under FET, Pregnancy | 0 Comments

Great news ! 2nd Beta result today at 9dp5dt is 223 – almost 3 time larger than 2 days ago. The HCG level is definitely heading to the right direction. I finally felt a little bit relaxed now than 2 days ago. Next Beta will be on Monday April 29. Then first ultra-sound will be on May 15. I will see my doctor to schedule the first US.

7dp5dt HCG 81

Posted by | April 24, 2013 | File Under FET, Pregnancy | 0 Comments

The Beta report came in the late afternoon and my HCG level is 81 at 7dp5dt! I was thrilled. What a solid number to start with! I emailed the report to the clinic and Nina, lovely nurse congratulated me and said I am pregnant!

I have been waiting for this moment for a long time but when it really comes, it feels like not real. But I know, it is real.

I will repeat a few more Beta test in the next a couple of week to watch the growth. Next Beta will be Friday and then next Monday. Hope to see the HCG number is doubling everything 2-3 days. 🙂

7dp5dt – HPT ++

Posted by | April 24, 2013 | File Under FET, Pregnancy | 0 Comments

Our clinic told us that early HPT is “discouraged” since it might be inaccurate and cause misunderstanding. I understand that if we don’t see a line with early HPT we will feel frustrated and sad. However, the anxiety and the stress from waiting is not fun too. So we prepare 5 HPT sticks before the FET.

I started HPT 2 days ago, 5dp5dt, got a very faint line – I felt good about it since it might mean something; it also might be due to the hormone medications I am using. We just kept cautiously optimistic and hope the line will get darker day by day.

And luckily, the line did become darker yesterday – we felt better but still cautiously optimistic since it’s still only 6dp5pt.

This morning, I woke up at about 2:40am to go to bathroom. Again I did HPT and this time the line showed quicker and even darker. There was a dark “+” showing clearly on the stick!! I was more convinced that it is a real POSITIVE and I am pregnant !! I was a little bit exciting… I took a few photos of HPT with + just to keep the “evidence” since it will fade after a couple of hours. I want to show it to DH.  I could not fall asleep again, lying on bed turning and toasting. By about 4:30am I had to go to bathroom again and I did another HPT! It’s still BFP with a even darker “+”. I am totally convinced now! 🙂

HPT + BFP

This morning I went for an early Beta test to confirm the result. I should be able to get the result this evening. Hope it will be a nice solid HCG number! Fingers crossed!!!

Best wishes to all other moms and mom-to-be out there on the same boat with me!!!

5days past transfer

This morning when I woke up to pee, I pee on a stick! There was a very faint line showed up. It’s better than seeing nothing but it might be from all those hormones I have been using. After all the roller coaster journey, I just want to be cautiously optimistic . i will do home pregnancy test in the following 4 days until my first beta date Friday, April 26.

Fingers crossed. Hope to see the line darker tomorrow! 🙂
